Rebecca Peet
Rebecca Peet - Ceramic Artist | Torre Studio
Rebecca Peet's journey into ceramics began unexpectedly in 2015 when a basketball injury led her to her first ceramics course at the Delaware Art Museum. What started as physical therapy became a profound artistic calling that has shaped her life and creative practice ever since.
Since that pivotal moment, Rebecca has immersed herself in the ceramic arts through classes and residencies at prestigious institutions including the Hawaii Potter's Guild, Glendale Community College, and Cobb Mountain of Art and Ecology. Each experience has deepened her understanding of clay as both medium and collaborator.
Working from her Torre Studio, Rebecca creates pieces that are truly co-created with the natural world. Her work draws inspiration from the organic forms that surround us - the graceful bend of oak trees, the gentle whisper of eucalyptus leaves, and the intricate fissures carved by the sea. This deep connection to nature is evident in every curve and texture of her ceramic pieces.
The majority of Rebecca's work is wood-fired, a process where the glaze emerges from the burning and melting ash through the consistent stoking of flames that vitrify the clay. This ancient technique creates unique, unrepeatable surfaces that speak to the collaborative relationship between artist, fire, and earth. Her other pieces are finished with wild clay that she personally digs from the Southern California landscape around her home, further connecting her work to place and environment.
Rebecca's practice is also deeply influenced by ritual and ancestral ceramic traditions, particularly drawing from Catholic and ancient Sicilian rites. This spiritual dimension adds layers of meaning and reverence to her functional and sculptural works.
Through Torre Studio, Rebecca continues to explore the intersection of nature, tradition, and contemporary ceramic art, creating pieces that honor both the earth from which they come and the hands that shape them.
